Fugang Lost a Rice- Tableland Neotectonism
Creation date : 2022
Materials : Wall paintings, metallic scale installation, LED lights, fan-winnowing machine, large rice installation, rice
Size : L11.83xH10.3m
Due to a road expansion project, this civilian residence beside Fugang Train Station was torn down; only one wall remains. The traces of life, left on the wall, look like sedimentaries of times. Along the wall is one large topographic contour of a plateau and a scale for measuring one’s height. The installation can thus “evaluate” the inter-influences among people, land, and the environment of Fugang throughout the times. Gigantic rice grains seem to fall from the sky, right in the middle of the contour. It indicates that Fugang continues to expand itself, just like the riddles caused by a rice grain dropping into a pond. After nearly a century, from a traditional agricultural community, Fugang now transitions to be a cultural and artistic hub, just like a plateau restructured by the Earth’s crust movements.
